Prince George marks his 13th birthday with a new royal photo
Prince William and Princess Kate celebrated their eldest child’s birthday on Wednesday, July 22, by sharing his portrait on Instagram.
“Happy 13th Birthday, George!” the couple wrote beside the photograph and a party popper emoji. George smiles at the camera with both hands in his pockets. He wears a dark suit jacket over an open-collar white shirt.
Royal photographer Matt Porteous captured the Prince George birthday portrait after the family returned to Kensington Palace from Trooping the Colour in June, The Independent reported. Porteous has photographed milestones for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
The image continues a family tradition. William and Kate regularly release portraits to mark the birthdays of George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The couple shared new photos and videos for Charlotte’s 11th birthday in May and Louis’ eighth birthday in April.
Prince William and Princess Kate welcomed George Alexander Louis at St. Mary’s Hospital in London on July 22, 2013. He now stands second in line to the British throne, behind Prince William. His 13th birthday arrives shortly before a major change. Kensington Palace confirmed that George will attend Eton College in September, following the same path as his father. He currently studies at Lambrook School alongside Charlotte and Louis.

He recently joined his parents and Charlotte at the Wimbledon men’s final, where his height and confident demeanor drew attention. William and Kate have introduced him gradually to royal responsibilities. Reports suggest George has begun to understand more about his future role as king, though his parents continue to protect his privacy and school life.
