Top Gun: Maverick actor James Handy has reportedly passed away at 81
On Wednesday, June 3, veteran actor James Handy, 81, was found dead in front of his home in the Los Angeles West Valley area.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s press release, the department received a radio call at around 9.30 am on Wednesday regarding an incident in the West Valley. The person who called 911 reportedly said, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
When the patrol officers reached the location, they found Handy unconscious in front of his yard with a stab wound to the chest. The paramedics immediately rushed him to the hospital, but he was later pronounced dead.
The suspect, who has been identified as a 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, is the son of the late actor’s girlfriend. Upon arrival, Gledhill allegedly told the officers he was the one they were looking for. He reportedly lives with his mother.
The LAPD officers arrested the suspect, took him to Van Nuys Jail, and booked him for one count of murder. Currently, the court has set the bail amount at $2 million. Details about what led Gledhill to allegedly carry out the crime have yet to be made public.
The press release also stated that LAPD detectives are treating this as an isolated incident and believe Gledhill is not currently a threat to anyone else.
Born on March 19, 1945, Handy has had an impressive and long-standing acting career. He made his acting debut in the 1977 soap opera Ryan’s Hope. He has contributed to nearly 150 projects, with his latest work being in Tom Cruise’s Top Gun: Maverick. The actor has also appeared in The X-Files, Jumanji, ER, Criminal Minds, and Logan.
