Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s wedding celebrations in Palermo, Sicily, had sparked controversy among local residents. After the couple married in an intimate court ceremony earlier, they traveled to Italy for a three-day wedding celebration and a second ceremony in the first week of June.

According to reports, the local authorities had established tight security measures around key locations, such as Piazza Sant’Anna and Piazza Croce dei Vespri (via Daily Mail). The closure of these areas had affected residents’ daily lives. The locals then put up protest posters at several locations. It read, “Palermo is not for rent. Public spaces belong to everyone. We reclaim the right to live them. Free from private profit” (via Parade).

Reports also claimed that when posters were removed, some protesters expressed their views through graffiti. In response, police officers were assigned to the location to provide additional security.

Local businesses also voiced dissatisfaction, with some allegedly forced to close early during the weekends. “But while it’s a pleasure to hold the celebrations in Palermo, it has brought a lot of problems – for example, for three days we’ve been forced to park miles away and walk to work. It’s not right to block the city – I could understand if it was for the pope, but not for a singer,” a local worker shared (via The Guardian).

Dua Lipa and Callum Turner’s wedding was quite star-studded, with several known icons attending it. Reportedly, Elton John played piano and sang his 1970 hit, “Your Song.” Furthermore, popular DJs like Martin Garrix, David Guetta, and Peggy Gou are also said to have performed at the wedding. Other guests reportedly included Charli XCX, Kylie Minogue, and Harry Styles, among others.
