Dua Lipa Makes $6K Peace Offering After Sicily Wedding Sparks Backlash — Report

Dua Lipa reportedly paid $6,000 to Sicilian residents as a peace offering for any inconvenience they might have faced during her wedding celebrations. The Dance the Night hitmaker tied the knot with fiancé Callum Turner in London in May, and threw a star-studded bash in Italy last weekend.

Dua Lipa reportedly paid over $6K to Sicilian locals after wedding sparked controversy

Dua Lipa and Callum Turner hosted a cocktail reception in Sicily for their celebrity friends. Piazza Santa Anna and Piazza Croce dei Vespri were sealed off for the party, and locals were asked to sign non-disclosure agreements. The guest list included the likes of Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, Shakira, and Adele.

According to The Sun, the police ripped off posters protesting against the rings of steel around the squares. The posters read, “Palermo is not for rent” and “Our square is not your living room.” The outlet also reported that the Grammy winner paid almost $6,000 residents. Allegedly, she paid as a gesture of compensation to those who faced parking problems because they lived in the area overlooking her party.

The newly married couple and their guests stayed at the five-star Villa Igiea hotel overlooking Palermo’s marina. Lipa wore a backless white halter neck gown with fur embellishments on the skirt from the knee down. Her matching white handbag also had similar decorations. Turner, on the other hand, wore a classic tan suit over a white button-down.

Allegedly, one foul-mouthed poster about an unpaid debt was still on a marble column in the square where the couple was hosting their party. A source said, “It doesn’t really match the idyllic love story vibe that Dua seems to be going for.” The Sun also reported that the police turned away some locals. Addressing this, a resident said, “It all seems a bit over the top. We just wanted to see Dua Lipa and wish her well.”
