Chuck Schumer slams Donald Trump for seemingly falling asleep at Knicks game
On June 10, Chuck Schumer made an X post, sharing screenshots of two recent Truth Social posts by Donald Trump. One of the posts included the president’s saying that he has been briefed about a U.S. military Apache helicopter being shot down in Iran. Another saw Trump retweeting a video shared by Fox News journalist Nicole Parker, which showed his motorcade in NYC.
Schumer reacted to the tweets with a sharp jab at Trump for appearing to fall asleep at the Knicks game on Monday. “American soldiers were shot down in Iran as Trump was wasting taxpayer dollars to fall asleep while watching the Knicks,” the New York Senator wrote. He added, “Each day this illegal war drags on further exposes this President’s recklessness.”
Schumer‘s post comes after a video capturing Trump appearing to doze off at Madison Square Garden went viral on social media. Fans spotted the president closing his eyes with his hand folded on his lap. A few moments later, he jolted awake and glanced around before turning his attention to the game.
The clip has circulated online, sparking widespread reactions on all social media platforms. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reacted to the video, writing, “WAKE TF UP.” Multiple late-night hosts have also taken a swipe at the president following the incident.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle gave a statement, saying, “President Trump made history as the first sitting President to attend an NBA Finals game.” He added, “Anyone ridiculously claiming the President was asleep is either lying or has severe brain damage.”
