Donald Trump Not Expected at Game 4, but the Fallout Will Still Be Visible

Donald Trump is not expected to attend Knicks Game 4 of the NBA Finals. His decision follows a historically charged appearance at Madison Square Garden (MSG) just one night earlier.

The president attending Game 3 made him the first sitting US president to attend an NBA Finals game. However, he was loudly booed when he came on the Jumbotron during the national anthem. Outside the venue, heightened screenings and a vast security perimeter choked movement across several blocks of Manhattan, snarling traffic and frustrating residents.

Donald Trump reportedly will skip Knicks Game 4 but security will remain the same

Trump will reportedly miss Knicks Game 4 because of other commitments and obligations. His decision removes the immediate need for a presidential security package inside the building. Even so, the frozen zone enveloping MSG stays untouched (via ESPN).

Law enforcement and city planners have opted to keep the wide perimeter in place, a move that bewildered many residents and business owners, given the changed circumstances. The blockade had already generated scenes of confusion before tip-off on Tuesday, as workers, journalists, and ticket holders struggled to find their way through a locked-down Midtown Manhattan. A similar disruption is expected hours before Game 4.

The organisation that operates the venue has accused New York’s leadership of overreach. Madison Square Garden Sports publicly blamed Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Police Commissioner Tisch for destroying the atmosphere that had built up around the team’s postseason run.

“The last several victories the Knicks have had have been celebrated by thousands and thousands outside MSG,” it read. “The joy and happiness were palpable everywhere. Apparently, Mayor Mamdani and Police Commissioner Tisch, despite what they say, don’t want to see these celebrations happen.”

The statement went further, arguing that a prolonged lockdown would choke off income from matchday customers. “The complete closing of areas around MSG is going to affect not only the celebration but also all the small businesses that rely on Garden fans for their livelihood,” it said, describing the spontaneous post-game gatherings as woven into the city’s identity.

As of now, there’s been no official confirmation that Donald Trump will attend Knicks Game 4.
