Jennifer Lopez Says Her Kids Have ‘Always Been There’ as Others Come & Go

Jennifer Lopez is preparing for a major life change, and the singer admits she is struggling with the reality of it. During a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”, the 56-year-old star opened up about her kids, Max and Emme, getting ready to leave home for college this August.

Jennifer Lopez opens up about being ’emotional’ over her kids leaving for college soon

Lopez, who shares the 18-year-old twins with ex-husband Marc Anthony, spoke candidly about becoming an empty nester after their recent high school graduation.

“It’s an emotional time. It’s been the three of us,” Lopez told host Andy Cohen. “People have come in and out of my life, but it’s been the three of us. They’ve always been there, and I’ve always been there.”

The “Office Romance” actress explained that she never truly imagined a future where her children would not be at home. While she always encouraged their independence, the reality of them leaving has hit harder than expected.

“I just never thought they would not be there,” she said. “I thought, too, that they’re so independent. I’ve given them roots and wings.”

Lopez revealed that she recently tried writing a message for their graduation program but found herself overwhelmed with emotion. “Every time it comes up, I just start crying. I could cry right now,” she admitted.

When Cohen asked for parenting advice, Lopez emphasized that children learn more from actions than words. “They do what they see you do. It’s not so much what you tell them all the time,” she said. “If you work hard, they become more hard workers.”

The singer also shared that Max and Emme often insist on carving out their own identities despite growing up with a global superstar as their mother. “My kids are like, ‘I don’t want to be anything like you. I want to have my own path,’” she explained.

Lopez recently told “Extra” that both twins earned admission to all five colleges they applied to and received scholarships. “I am so proud,” she said, praising their dedication and perseverance. She added that watching them achieve their goals has made this bittersweet milestone even more meaningful.
