Jimmy Kimmel Reveals Uncertainty About Future in TV After ABC Contract Hold-Up

Jimmy Kimmel, the host of the late-night show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, expressed concern about his future as ABC is taking more than the usual time to renew his contract for the show.

He revealed in an interview for New York Magazine’s Vulture that the late-night segment is slowly being “poisoned,” and its slow demise is not because of a fall in ratings.

Questions grow about Jimmy Kimmel’s future on ABC after contract comments

Kimmel feels unsure about his future with ABC, as he faces possible cancellation. With 1 year remaining in the current contract, Kimmel is uncertain why the renewal is still on hold. The host said, “It’s an unusual position to be in, but I do still have a year left on my contract, and that’s what I agreed to!”

Kimmel noted that the late-night segment is doing better than ever before, and its performance certainly is not the grounds for cancellation. “There are far more people watching late-night TV than there ever were, if you look at the number of views me and my colleagues get online every day and add in our linear-television ratings,” he remarked.

Kimmel’s suspicions come at a time when this segment is facing one of the most brutal takedowns in history. Recently, Stephen Colbert’s beloved talk show was cancelled by CBS and Paramount. While the authorities have claimed that it is merely a business decision and was not based on the show’s content or popularity, fans suspect foul play. The cancellation followed Paramount’s takeover by Trump allies and closely followed Colbert’s monologue criticizing Paramount’s settlement with Donald Trump.

Reflecting on the incident, Kimmel said,  “I feel a little bit defeated by it,” adding, “In a lot of ways, I feel like I’m looking at my own future.”

Kimmel remains one of the few late-night show hosts who are still offering stiff criticism of the Trump administration.
