Sean “Diddy” Combs is pushing back against claims made in an ongoing civil lawsuit filed by music producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones. In a new court filing, the music mogul’s legal team is asking for access to Jones’ medical records while also challenging parts of the discovery process in the case.
The latest legal manoeuvre marks another chapter in a lawsuit that has generated headlines since Jones first accused Diddy of sexual assault and other misconduct.
Sean “Diddy” Combs requests medical records from Rodney Jones in ongoing litigation
According to newly filed court documents cited by TMZ, Diddy’s attorneys argue that Jones has failed to properly provide access to medical records that could be relevant to the lawsuit.
The filing claims Jones agreed last year to authorize the release of those records, but that the paperwork ultimately submitted did not comply with the privacy regulations required to obtain them.
Diddy’s legal team is also objecting to several discovery requests they describe as overly broad and improper. Among those objections are questions involving actor Cuba Gooding Jr., who was named in portions of Jones’ original lawsuit. Jones previously alleged that Gooding was involved in an incident aboard Diddy’s yacht. In response, Diddy’s attorneys argue that requests seeking information about the conduct or statements of third parties fall outside the scope of the case against their client.
Jones first filed suit against Diddy seeking $30 million in damages. In the complaint, he accused the Bad Boy Records founder of sexual assault, unwanted touching, coercive behavior, and drugging him before an alleged assault.
Diddy has consistently denied the allegations. His legal team previously characterized the lawsuit as a money-driven attempt to generate publicity, calling Jones’ claims false and accusing him of using high-profile names to attract attention.
The case has already seen several developments in court. Earlier proceedings resulted in a judge dismissing multiple claims brought by Jones, though portions of the lawsuit remain active.
