Vanilla Ice Isn’t Backing Away From Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 Event

Vanilla Ice is standing by his appearance at Donald Trump’s Freedom 250 event. It is a patriotic commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary of independence in 2026. The rapper revealed that he plans to move forward with his scheduled performance, despite the controversy surrounding the event.

Vanilla Ice still wants to perform at Freedom 250 event

Vanilla Ice is holding firm on his decision to take the stage at the Freedom 250 event.

As reported by OK!, Robert Van Winkle remains one of the few artists still listed for the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 event, running June 25–July 10 on the National Mall in D.C. Even so, he acknowledged this week that the future of the show is now uncertain.

Speaking to Laura Ingraham on Fox News, the “Ice Ice Baby” hitmaker said that he was still in the dark about whether the show would go on or if it had shifted into Trump’s rally.

“I hope so, I don’t even know, I’m here marinating,” he shared. “But I’m honored to even be invited for this and I’ll be there, no matter what. This is gonna be an epic birthday for our country.”

In a different CBS News interview, the 58-year-old called the decision “as simple as a pimple.” “It’s the birthday of America,” he added. “It’s not anything to do with politics. I don’t know why they’re turning it into politics.”

The lineup started to fall apart after more performers learned about the event’s connection to President Donald Trump. Martina McBride, The Commodores, Young MC, Bret Michaels, and several others have since pulled away from the celebration. A number of them said that they were first told it would be a nonpartisan event.

Trump fired back at the artists pulling out, saying they had the “yips.” Additionally, he posted on Truth Social that he’s planning a June 24 rally featuring himself alongside Lee Greenwood and Christopher Macchio. “We don’t want singers with no talent, but big fees to put you to sleep, we’ve told them all to stay home,” the statement read.
