JD Vance’s The View Debut Sparks Whoopi Goldberg Warning

J.D. Vance, vice president in Donald Trump’s second term, made his first appearance on a live episode of The View to promote his new book Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith. However, he was quickly drawn into a tense exchange, where he attempted to reframe Whoopi Goldberg’s comments, but the ABC moderator interrupted and warned him not to “start any stuff with me.”

J.D. Vance shared a tense exchange during his first appearance on The View

On June 16, the 41-year-old, who is the third sitting vice president to appear on the show after Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, faced all six View co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and former White House staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin.

Vance appeared on the talk show to promote his new book but was instead questioned about the Epstein files, ICE, and the Trump administration’s handling of Black history, reports Variety. Farah, Navarro, and Behar opened the segment by questioning him about inflation, wages, and gas prices.

Navarro said, as quoted by Deadline, “[Trump] just said he loves the inflation.” To which Vance replied, “What he said, Ana, is that he loves the fact that the inflation is going to come down when this war is over.” Behar quickly responded, “That wasn’t — that’s not what he said, but that’s all right. Are you his interpreter or are you his vice president?”

Haines then questioned Vance about ICE. He said the U.S. must “strike a balance” when enforcing laws, adding, “We don’t want to dehumanize people.” He also acknowledged he’s an Epstein conspiracy theorist, reports USA Today.

During the show, Goldberg also asked the vice president about the treatment of people of color in America, according to Yahoo Entertainment. He initially seemed unsure of the question. To which Goldberg clarified, saying that parts of U.S. history, including slavery, were being removed or downplayed, and that Black Americans who worked toward the American dream were being disrespected. When he began to respond, saying, “So you say that we’re anti-minority or anti-Black—” Goldberg quickly interrupted, “No, I didn’t say that! I asked—don’t start any stuff with me, man. Don’t get me in trouble.” The correction drew loud cheers from the audience, and Vance admitted he “misinterpreted” the question and said it was “fair.”

The interview ended on a positive note, with the show presenting him with a View-branded baby jumper, as Vance and his wife, Usha, are expecting their fourth child. His appearance follows years of criticism from the show’s hosts, who have often targeted both him and his wife since he was elected vice president under Donald Trump.

Vance’s appearance also comes amid a dispute involving The View, ABC, and the Trump administration, as the FCC reviews the network’s broadcast licenses in connection with an investigation tied to Disney’s DEI policies, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
