Angelina Jolie reflected on her relationship with her kids after they opted to drop Brad Pitt‘s last name.

Speaking to Variety, the “Maleficent” star shared that she’s grateful her children “still like” her and enjoy spending time with her. She credited their encouragement for motivating her to explore new opportunities beyond Los Angeles.

“My kids are almost all 18, so now they want to see me traveling the world, they want me to get out and do things. They know me more than anybody, and they still like me, which says a lot. I think they’re very encouraging of me kind of getting back to aspects of myself that maybe I hadn’t felt as free to do,” Jolie explained.

In the interview, the “Changeling” actress revealed that she had stepped away from acting even before her split from Pitt. Jolie explained that she shifted her focus to directing and international humanitarian work, assuming her acting career was behind her. However, to spend more time at home, take shorter trips, and secure financial stability for her family, she returned to acting. From then on, Jolie only accepted roles that filmed nearby, wrapped quickly, or allowed her to bring her kids along.

Pitt and Jolie’s story began in 2005, led to marriage in 2014, and ended in separation two years later. A court ended their marriage status in April 2019, but the complete divorce settlement wasn’t resolved until December 30, 2024.

The ex-spouses are parents to Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17. Since the split, all six have removed the “Troy” actor’s last name, with Shiloh being the first to legally drop “Pitt.”
