Prince William sent the England soccer team a message ahead of their first World Cup outing. The Prince of Wales took to social media to wish good fortune to the Three Lions before their group stage game in Texas.

Prince William has a message for England ahead of World Cup

Prince William penned a message on his X (formerly Twitter) profile to wish the England team good luck before their World Cup opener against Croatia.

“Good luck to England ahead of their first World Cup group match tonight! Here’s to a great tournament ahead,” he noted. He also included an emoji combination of a flexed bicep and a rocket ship before signing off his message with a “W.”

Prince William is known for his soccer fandom and has been in attendance for several high-profile Premier League and international games. He is a lifelong, passionate fan of English Premier League club Aston Villa. The 44-year-old notably traveled to Istanbul for the club’s UEFA Europa League final triumph over SC Freiburg in May.

Led by former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) coach Thomas Tuchel, England emphatically kick-started their World Cup campaign. The Three Lions secured a 4-2 victory against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia. Captain Harry Kane bagged a brace at the Dallas Stadium in Arlington.

The Bayern Munich forward started proceedings from the penalty spot, only for the Croatians to score a leveller through Martin Baturina. Kane’s second goal for the night was once again met with an equalizer. Petar Musa scored right on the cusp of half-time. However, Tuchel’s men ran riot in the second half. Goals from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford sealed the points for England.

Having secured three points in their first game, England will now play Ghana on June 23 in their second group stage match.
