Dennis Quaid is reportedly attempting to stop his $13,750 monthly child support, made to his ex-wife Kimberly Buffington, following the high school graduation of their twins Thomas and Zoe.
The “Reagan” star has also noted that his leaning towards MAGA and President Donald Trump has impacted his potential to find work in Hollywood, a turn of events that would affect his earnings.
Dennis Quaid attempts to explain how child support payments were impacted by his vote
According to RadarOnline, speaking about the situation that Quaid faces today, an insider has revealed, “Dennis feels like it’s more than fair for the financial support to come to an end now that the kids are grown adults and have graduated.”
He added, “He’s always understood his responsibility, and he loves his kids and will continue to support them emotionally and be there when needed, but he also believes there comes a point where everyone has to stand on their own two feet.”
Quaid also feels that his political stance as a Trump supporter has severely impacted his standing in the Hollywood industry and potentially limited his earning opportunities – a fact that has further strained his ability to continue paying child support.
The actor from “The Great Balls of Fire!” (72) has filed a petition in Los Angeles, citing his and Buffington’s agreement that the payments would end once the kids completed high school.
A source explains Quaid’s current situation, saying, “Combined with the fact that he’s getting older, it has only strengthened his belief that it’s time to move on from making these payments. From his perspective, he doesn’t want to continue feeling like an ATM, especially at a point in life where work opportunities could eventually start slowing down.”
Quaid and Buffington married in 2004 and welcomed the twins in 2007, before divorcing in 2018. This marked his third marriage before he later married Laura Savoie in 2020.
