Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s rumored wedding plans seem to be creating security concerns in New York City. According to Variety, officers assigned to the Madison Square Garden area have been briefed about the possibility of large crowds gathering outside the venue on July 3.
As such, the outlet reached out to two NYPD officers who patrol the area around Madison Square Garden. Both officers told Variety they got a warning about a “possible influx of Taylor Swift fans,” paparazzi, and curious onlookers. They added that the rumored event has become a regular topic of conversation within the department.
The concern is understandable. Madison Square Garden sits in one of the busiest parts of Manhattan. It is located above Penn Station, one of New York City’s biggest transportation hubs. Even on a normal day, the area sees heavy pedestrian traffic. If thousands of Swifties show up, the crowds could become difficult to manage.
Officers have already dealt with several major events in recent weeks. The area has hosted New York Knicks games, concerts, and increased commuter traffic linked to FIFA World Cup events. Per the report, another large gathering would add to an already packed schedule for law enforcement.
Although MSG has been widely rumored as the wedding venue, newer reports suggest that it may not tell the whole story. Sources claim the July 3 event at MSG is allegedly planned as a “huge party” rather than the wedding ceremony itself. According to the insider, the couple wants to keep their actual vows private.
Meanwhile, reports have also claimed that security has increased around Swift’s Rhode Island home. Friends and family have allegedly been arriving there discreetly in recent days. Those claims have added to speculation that the private ceremony could take place away from New York before the larger celebration.
