Lethal Weapon Star Danny Glover Shares Alzheimer’s Diagnosis in Emotional Update

“Lethal Weapon” actor Danny Glover has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, as he revealed in a pre-taped talk on The Today Show with Lester Holt.

The actor, 79, has been open about his health struggles, especially with epileptic seizures, which often impeded his performances. The Alzheimer’s diagnosis adds to the pain and uncertainty in his life.

“I could live with it in a sense,” the actor said of his disease, which was diagnosed “not long after” his honorary Oscar win in 2022. The actor was also quite frank about the progression of the disease, saying,  “I’m sure as it advances, things are going to be different and changing.” However, he praised his family because they “absolutely … got [his] back.”

According to Page Six, Glover’s daughter, Mandisa, also spoke to Holt about the significance of his father controlling his own narrative and being honest with it. She added, “That’s really important. And the time is now. What better time but now for him to speak for himself? It’s important because people ask questions sometimes, and I don’t want to be a dishonest person and say, ‘Oh, yeah, everything is all right. It’s all great.’”

Glover also took a moment to look back at his illustrious career, citing “Places in the Heart” with Sally Fields as his “favorite” project of all. Now, he is focused on teaching “young people” about their “responsibilities.” “Justice is our collective responsibility. One thing I learned from my parents most of my life is the capacity of people to change through their own. They become the architect of their change,” the Emmy-nominee elucidated.

Glover has also suffered acutely from epileptic seizures in the past, and described how he once managed one that was coming on while he was backstage.

Glover’s career has spanned more than four decades, with acclaimed performances in Lethal Weapon and The Color Purple.
