King Charles called for a family dinner in Scotland just ahead of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s visit to the UK. The visit, which remains uncertain due to security concerns, could mark the first time that the Sussexes will visit the firm with their children in four years.

According to People, King Charles reportedly held a “rare family dinner” at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Scotland on June 30. The dinner saw the august presence of Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
The royals reportedly had a “dine and sleep,” i.e., dinner followed by an overnight stay ahead of the Order of the Thistle service on Wednesday, which is reported to have been attended by everyone except Princess Anne.
Whether the gathering had anything to do with the Sussexes’ alleged upcoming visit is not known. However, the visit itself remains largely uncertain after RAVEC, the Home Office committee responsible for protective security, declined to reinstate taxpayer-funded police protection for Prince Harry and his family. This means the couple and their children may have to rely on private security while they stay outside royal estates in the U.K.
Though the prince values his children’s meeting with their grandfather, who has not seen them since Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, he has expressed that he won’t be exposing his children to the paparazzi in the U.K. – something likely to happen without substantial security arrangements.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry said on June 29 that he “continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the U.K.”
As the proposed visit draws near, the family dinner adds fresh speculation about its various ramifications and the possibility of a reunion.
