Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s planned visit to the U.K. has become uncertain due to the absence of state-funded security.
The planned and long-awaited trip, which also heralded a reunion with the firm, would have been the family’s first trip to Britain together in four years and also the first time Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have visited the royal family in years.
Prince Harry may delay or cancel the UK visit with Meghan Markle and their children due to unresolved security concerns
According to OK! Magazine, Prince Harry’s request for police protection was rejected by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee, known as Ravec, which handles security arrangements for senior royals through the Home Office. As it stands, the Sussexes will not have taxpayer-funded security protection while they are outside the royal estate, and have to depend on private security arrangements travelling from California.
The rejection will affect a lot of plans from Harry and Meghan. For instance, Harry was set to attend events connected to the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. On the other hand, the children’s visit to King Charles was also highly anticipated as the King has met Prince Archie only a couple of times, and seen Princess Lilibet only once at Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.
According to a source, Harry’s plans to visit family, friends and charities had been “pulled out from under their feet at the 11th hour,” and the Duke of Sussex is still “looking at every option” to bring his family to the U.K. safely. However, Harry will not compromise on his children’s privacy and has stated that he will not allow them to be “chased by paparazzi.”
As hope around the visit continues to dim, Prince Harry has told the BBC that he cannot envision a situation where he can bring his wife and kids back to the U.K. at this point.
DO YOU THINK THE SUSSEXES WILL BE ABLE TO COME TO THE U.K.?
