Details have emerged about Prince William’s meaningful tribute to his late mother, Diana, on her birthday. He has consistently used the Late Princess of Wales’ birthday to recognize others carrying on her values. Princess Diana, who would have turned 65 this year, died in a car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997, when Prince William was 15, and Prince Harry was 12.
Here’s how Prince William reportedly paid tribute to late Princess Diana on her 65th birthday
Prince William has marked what would have been Princess Diana’s birthday with a tribute that centers on continuing her humanitarian legacy, especially her work with homelessness.
To mark his late mother’s birthday on July 1, the Prince of Wales chose to highlight the third anniversary of Homewards, his initiative to end homelessness across the UK. The program, introduced in 2023, aims to ensure homelessness becomes “rare, brief and unrepeated.”
Now active in six areas across the UK, the initiative has allocated about $2.6 million via the Homewards Fund. It has also secured another $4.8 million through grant funding and philanthropic support, per RadarOnline.com.
Additionally, the project has provided $3.1 million in donated household items to set up homes. It has also helped over 250 people find steady employment and placed 31 Aberdeen residents into permanent housing.
According to one royal insider, the timing of the Prince’s recent poignant initiative held special emotional weight. They said, “William’s latest work has always been deeply personal for him because it was his mother who first opened his eyes to homelessness as a child. Diana believed every person deserved dignity, compassion, and practical support, and William sees Homewards as a continuation of those values. Marking what would have been her 65th birthday this year by focusing on this cause feels like the most meaningful tribute he could make, and it feels like he is really channelling her spirit with this.”
Outside of his public role, Prince William has also made personal gestures. For Mother’s Day in the UK in March 2026, he shared an unreleased 1984 image of himself and Princess Diana at Highgrove.
