Hugh Grant had a very Hugh Grant moment at Formula 1. The actor joined the celebrity crowd at the British Grand Prix, but his chat with Martin Brundle quickly took an awkward turn. One small TV mix-up was all it took.
What happened during Hugh Grant’s F1 interview
Hugh Grant joined the celebrity crowd at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix. In a clip shared on X, Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle stopped the actor during his famous pre-race grid walk and asked him about being at the event.
Grant told Brundle that he had come as a Ferrari guest and brought two of his sons along for the day. So far, the conversation felt relaxed. Then Brundle moved from racing to The Gentlemen, and things got awkward fast.
Brundle asked Grant whether he would do another season of The Gentlemen, adding that he loved the show. The problem? Grant starred in Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film The Gentlemen, not the Netflix series of the same name.
Grant corrected the mix-up right away. He explained that he had done the movie, but had not seen the TV series. Brundle tried to recover by telling him the show was good and that he should watch it.
The Martin Brundle grid walk blunder lasted only a few seconds, but fans know these moments are exactly why his grid walks often go viral. Live broadcasts leave very little room for a smooth escape.
TMZ also reported that Grant attended the race as a Ferrari guest and came with two of his sons. The outlet noted that the actor kept his cool through the awkward moment, even as Brundle quickly wrapped the interview.
To be fair, Grant did not seem angry. The whole Hugh Grant F1 interview felt more uncomfortable than dramatic. Still, one wrong question, one dry correction, and one speedy exit gave fans plenty to talk about.
