Lamar Odom denied using ex-wife Khloé Kardashian for clout, nearly a decade after their divorce was finalized in December 2016. The former NBA player clarified that he never intended to imply he married Khloé for fame after remarks made in his Netflix documentary, Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which was released in March 2026.

During a June episode of the Nothing’s Off the Table With Louis Ruggiero podcast, host Louis Ruggiero asked Lamar, as quoted by Us Weekly, “I gotta ask you — because my wife loves the Kardashians, my wife loves you — and she was saying that they were dragging you because [someone] in the Netflix documentary said you were with her for the clout. I was like, ‘I don’t believe that'”.
To which Lamar replied, “But that never came out of my mouth. I think that was my kids or my children or whoever they were interviewing at the time. Because, as I look into the camera, I didn’t really need more clout.” The former athlete cited his success on the court, explaining that he was “playing with the best player” of his generation.
Lamar said his relationship with Khloé felt like a natural fit. He added that he was not looking for a relationship at the time, noting that he had recently been involved with an A-list actress and was also dating an Armenian woman before meeting Kardashian. According to the former player, everything fell into place naturally once they met.
According to FOX59 News, a friend of Lamar said in the documentary that the athlete told him he married Khloé to improve his future because of her “mad connections.” The reality star dismissed the claims as “insane.” Khloé said, “You’re asking me to be in your documentary and behind the scenes, you and your friends are all saying you were with me just for fame? That’s some f—– up s—. I feel so dumb.”
Khloé and Lamar tied the knot in 2009, but their marriage ended after four years. She temporarily withdrew her divorce petition in 2015 to support Odom following his overdose, before filing it again in 2016.
