Lamar Odom recalled one of the toughest periods of his life during an interview. The former NBA player revealed the support he received from the Kardashian family when he was battling addiction. He especially praised Kris Jenner and Khloé Kardashian for helping him get treatment. Odom said he continues to be grateful for their support years later.
The former NBA star recalls Kris Jenner’s support during his recovery
During an appearance on Nothing’s Off the Table with Louis Ruggiero, Odom recalled one of his earliest trips to rehab. He said Khloé discovered he had traveled to Big Bear with another woman while they were still married. Odom acknowledged using cocaine at that time and that his addiction had an impact on his judgment. He described his actions as the result of an addict’s mindset.
Odom said the woman later contacted Khloé and revealed where they were. He said he used more cocaine at the woman’s house before Kris Jenner came in and shouted, “Lammy.” Odom was picked up by six SUVs waiting outside, and transported to a rehab facility in San Diego without any questions, Odom said. He also admitted that the staff of the rehab center called him “Joseph,” but everyone knew who he was.
During that time the Kardashians wanted to keep him safe and protect their family brand, Odom said. He added that his heart felt broken but also grew stronger as he worked on his recovery. Odom also said he remains grateful because the family tried to take care of him as best they could. He really values their efforts for him.
The interview came months after Netflix released Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom, which revisited his addiction battle and included interviews with both Odom and Khloé. The couple married in 2009 after dating for about one month and later starred in Khloé & Lamar. After Odom suffered a near-fatal overdose at Nevada’s Love Ranch brothel in October 2015, Khloé withdrew her divorce filing so she could help make medical decisions during his recovery before filing again in May 2016, and their divorce became final that December.
