Scott Jennings Says He Spoke With Mitch McConnell as ‘Brain Dead’ Rumors Explode

Scott Jennings said that Mitch McConnell, who was hospitalized last month, is doing well. Responding to conservative political activist Laura Loomer’s claim that McConnell was “brain dead,” the 48-year-old CNN conservative commentator said McConnell is still recovering in the hospital.

Scott Jennings said he spoke with Mitch McConnell for nearly 20 minutes as unverified online rumors about the senator’s health

The limited information surrounding McConnell’s hospitalization has sparked widespread social media speculation. A post on X by Loomer on July 7 was among the circulated claims, which read, “High-level source close to the White House tells me ‘Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back.'” In a separate tweet, she claimed that McConnell was “officially brain dead,” that “organ failure is accelerating,” that a life support machine was keeping him “alive,” and that his wife, Elaine Chao, had “fled the country to China.”

Following this, Jennings wrote on X that he spoke with McConnell that morning, describing the senator as still recovering in the hospital. He said their conversation lasted nearly 20 minutes and covered foreign policy, the situation in Maine, his visit to the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, and Senate history. He added, “I told him we want to see him back at work as soon as possible.”

Punchbowl News reported earlier, “Just before 9 a.m. on June 14, the dispatcher directed an ALS (Advanced Life Support) ambulance to the address of the former Senate GOP leader’s home. Audio of the EMS dispatch was circulating online earlier this week and was posted by journalist Desiree Townsend.”

Later on the same day, McConnell spokesperson David Popp said the senator was hospitalized and “receiving excellent care.” On June 22, Popp said that McConnell was “working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery.” No further updates have been provided since then.

According to ABC News 4, McConnell, whose current term is expected to conclude in January 2027, has faced several health concerns in recent years. These include a March 2023 fall resulting in a concussion and broken ribs. He also froze mid-sentence during a later news conference, and reports said he had suffered two more falls earlier that year.
