CNN commentator Scott Jennings fielded questions about reports naming him as the frontrunner to replace White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. After all, Leavitt plans to step down at the end of August to spend more time with her family, as she recently announced.

CNN’s Kaitlan Collins asked Scott Jennings about the speculation during an appearance on “The Source.” Jennings sidestepped the question. “I don’t really have anything to say about it other than, I mean, I would get to see you every day, and I would think you’d be happy about this,” Jennings said.
Collins reminded him they already work together. Jennings replied that his current role as CNN’s senior political commentator only brings him to the studio “one or two days a week.” Further quipping, “Can you imagine, every single day, getting to go to work where I am? This should be an amazing thing for you.” Collins observed, “But that’s not a no.” Jennings declined to elaborate further on the White House rumors.
Paul Begala, a former strategist for Bill Clinton, appeared alongside Jennings and gave a blunt assessment of the position. “That’s a thankless job and I don’t wish it on anybody,” Begala said. “I especially don’t wish it on Scott, because he’s my friend.”
Previously, on CNN’s “NewsNight,” Jennings also shook his head when asked if he was pursuing the role. He then praised Karoline Leavitt without confirming or denying his interest. “Karoline Leavitt has been maybe the greatest White House press secretary in the last 30 years, at least. She’s been nothing short of brilliant,” Jennings said.
Jennings has worked in the George W. Bush administration as a special assistant to the president and deputy director of political affairs. He also advised Senator Mitch McConnell and worked on several Kentucky Republican campaigns. Now, with him regularly defending Donald Trump on CNN and co-authoring a book with Trump titled A Revolution of Common Sense: How Donald Trump Stormed Washington and Fought for Western Civilization, people wonder if he’s the next press secretary.
