Brian Austin Green is reflecting on his marriage to Megan Fox and how it transformed his life. The actor admitted he approached love differently after their divorce and put in the work to overcome old habits. He also said his relationship with fiancée Sharna Burgess is stronger than any of his previous relationships. Green made the candid comments while reflecting on his personal growth years after his split from Fox.
The actor reflects on how his relationship reshaped his perspective on love
In an interview on the I Do, Part 2 podcast, Green talked about his nearly 15-year relationship with Fox, including almost 10 years of marriage. He admitted he used to lead with physical attraction before building a relationship. He added that many of his past relationships had been shaped by that pattern. After he and Fox ended their marriage in 2020, he decided he did not want to repeat the same mistakes.
Green said he started therapy to better understand his role in the unhealthy relationship. He said he tried “all sorts of therapy” to identify the behaviors that became toxic and damaged his relationships. At the time, he was also raising four children as a single father. Green shares son Kassius with former partner Vanessa Marcil and sons Noah, Bodhi, and Journey with Fox.
Green said everything changed when he met Dancing With the Stars pro Sharna Burgess in 2020. Rather than rushing into a romance, they built a genuine friendship first. He said that before they became a couple, they openly discussed both their strengths and their flaws. That honesty convinced them the relationship was worth pursuing because it already felt right.
Green also shared why he believes physical attraction alone is not enough for a relationship to last. He said attraction fades if people do not build a deeper emotional connection first. In 2022, Green and Burgess welcomed their son, Zane, and announced their engagement in 2023. He and Fox also continue to co-parent their three sons, showing they have remained focused on their family despite the divorce.
