A new biography by journalist Bob Spitz explores the offstage life of the iconic band and has made fresh claims about the band’s sexual behaviour.
According to The Rolling Stones: The Biography, the most promiscuous character in the band is not Keith Richards, whose sexual adventures have gathered scrutiny over the years.
A new Rolling Stones book revisits Bill Wyman’s sexual history
OK! Magazine reports that the book has claimed that it was bassist Bill Wyman who was reportedly the leading ladies’ man. The book claims that the members once sat down to calculate the number of sexual partners they had over their lifetime. Wyman came out on top, as he stopped counting at 1,800.
Speaking to Fox News Digital, Spitz said, “The Stones have always been known for their offstage behavior.”
According to Spitz, “Bill stopped counting at about 1,800. He had kept a journal with the name of every woman he had spent the night with.” Jagger believed that his number was in the hundreds, and Richards counted four on his fingers. Defying the womanizer image of Richards, Wyman “turned out to be the most romantic of the Stones.”
The book has clearly indicated that Wyman was also the top womanizer on tours.
“Bill Wyman had a saying in the band that he couldn’t go to sleep alone,” Spitz said. “Every night, he scouted the most beautiful young women standing closest to the stage. He would point out one or two, and one of the roadies would invite them backstage.” He also detailed Wyman’s marital status, saying, “Bill was the oldest Rolling Stone. He was, at the beginning, the only married Rolling Stone. Yet, when he joined the band, he let loose. He was, without a doubt, the most promiscuous of all the Stones.”
“Rock ‘n’ rollers have always gotten a pass,” Spitz said. “As a biographer, I can’t give them a pass. I’m sorry. I have a responsibility when I examine these things.”
Apart from sexual behaviours, the biography dwelt on the success of the band and the many controversies that surrounded them.
