President Donald Trump will be making a rare prime-time speech to the nation on Thursday. The address will reportedly touch on escalating tensions with Iran and his long-standing fight over election integrity. The White House speech comes as the president looks to regain the media initiative amid renewed military action overseas and a stalled legislative agenda at home.
Donald Trump’s 9 PM ET White House address is expected to cover Iran and election integrity
A senior adviser described Donald Trump’s upcoming prime-time speech to Axios as a “potpourri,” signalling a broad, freewheeling address that could bring back his unfounded claims about the 2020 vote. The decision to step behind the iconic White House podium reportedly reflects a strategic shift.
While Trump remains available to reporters through impromptu gaggles, formal, direct-to-camera speeches have been rare. His team now wants to change that. “We want to get into the rhythm of doing this,” the adviser told Axios. “It’s powerful when you give prime-time speeches that give a sense of importance to what he’s saying.”
Leading the agenda is the rapidly changing military situation with Iran. Hours before announcing the prime-time speech on his Truth Social platform, Trump declared he would reimpose a naval blockade and institute a 20 percent fee on ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
“It’s changing by the minute, but it’s something he wants to address,” the adviser said. The president’s last major televised address, on April 1, was a full public justification of the Iran war, which has since contributed to rising oil prices and sliding approval ratings.
Yet it is the second theme that holds particular political weight. Trump intends to push for the SAVE America Act, a strict voter identification bill currently stalled in Congress. Crucially, he may present findings from intelligence officials regarding the administration’s review of the 2020 election.
Despite losing that race, Trump has never conceded, and the review allows him to keep the narrative alive. The adviser flatly denied online speculation that the president plans to discuss the 2020 Senate runoffs in Georgia, confirming the focus remains squarely on his own defeat.
To be noted, Trump announced the “Speech to the Nation” without revealing the context, and the White House has not given immediate details.
