Elle King revealed that she is autistic. The 37-year-old singer shared that she didn’t learn she was autistic until after joining Nation’s Dumbest. The Grammy nominee also acknowledged that she is still navigating her journey, but she’s ready for what’s ahead.
Why The Nation’s Dumbest became a turning point for Elle King
Talking about the new competition show, Nation’s Dumbest, which premieres on July 15 and will bring celebrities together for silly challenges centered around funny errors and blunders, King told Us Weekly, “I love games. I love game shows. I’m extremely competitive, and I love puzzles and everything. I actually found out right after the show that I’m autistic, and so I was like, ‘Everything makes so much sense now.’ But I didn’t even know.”
She said, “Right before the show, I was like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ [I was] starting to panic, ‘There is a scenario that you could be the nation’s dumbest.'” Curious to see how she would perform, King put her knowledge to the test in an unusual way and was surprised by the results.
King shared that she took an IQ test and was surprised by her high score. After questioning the result, she took another test on a different website and received the same score: 132.
The singer opened up about her autism diagnosis in May through a personal post on Facebook, writing, “good news is, I’m autistic.” She said the revelation has already led her to make changes, including being more mindful of who she surrounds herself with.
King, who is engaged to tattoo artist Dan Tooker, is among the celebrities appearing on Nation’s Dumbest alongside Dr. Drew Pinsky, Carmen Electra, Ice-T, Steve-O, Hilaria Baldwin, JoJo Siwa, and more. Jack Whitehall will serve as the new host of the series, reports Deadline.
