Princess Charlotte made a subtle but touching style statement at the Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final this year by donning a pretty charm bracelet with a deep-rooted family connection to her late grandmother, Princess Diana. The charm is similar to a gold bracelet Diana wore after her wedding, gifted to her by then-Prince Charles.
How Princess Charlotte’s charm bracelet reflects Princess Diana’s lasting royal legacy
The 11-year-old Princess Charlotte joined her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, along with her older brother, Prince George, in the Royal Box on Sunday, July 12, for the Men’s Singles Final to watch Jannik Sinner defend his title.
The young royal also took fashion notes from her mother. She wore a pretty ruffle-sleeved cornflower-blue dress, a color reminiscent of Kate’s own Wimbledon looks from last year.
However, it was Princess Charlotte’s gold charm bracelet that quickly caught the internet’s attention. Some outlets reported that the nautical-inspired bracelet adorning Charlotte’s wrist was from Accessorize by M&S. The accessory drew comparisons to a sentimental gold charm bracelet once owned by her late grandmother, Princess Diana.
Diana’s original gold charm bracelet held deep sentimental value. It was a gold chain gifted to her by then-Prince Charles shortly after their wedding on July 29, 1981. Reportedly, the then-Prince of Wales gifted her a new charm for each of their first ten wedding anniversaries, including a miniature St. Paul’s Cathedral, a pair of ballet slippers, and a polo cap.
However, “the most sentimental additions”, according to reports, were two plain gold initials, “W” and “H,” representing her sons, Princes William and Harry. Given the bracelet’s deep sentimental value, the Princess rarely wore the bracelet in public.
This isn’t the first time Princess Charlotte has honored her grandmother through fashion. At Trooping the Colour on June 13, she and her mother wore matching three-strand pearl bracelets, with Kate’s piece being a Nigel Milne heirloom that once belonged to Diana, who famously wore it during a 1989 royal tour of Hong Kong.
Charlotte’s long hair in soft, loose waves at Wimbledon also drew attention for being similar to Kate’s signature look.
