Prince Harry’s remarks on the lawsuit during his UK visit elicited one telling response from King Charles. The comments came after he lost his privacy case against Associated Newspapers, publisher of the Daily Mail. This is not the first time the Duke of Sussex’s legal battles have coincided with royal appearances in Britain.
King Charles’ reported reaction to Prince Harry’s statement on lawsuit loss revealed
The details of King Charles’ reported response to Prince Harry’s remarks following his court defeat have now come to light.
Harry has come under fire for his comments following an unsuccessful legal challenge against the Daily Mail, with some calling the response “completely ludicrous.” Last week, Mr Justice Nicklin dismissed Harry’s case alleging unlawful information gathering by Associated Newspapers. The ruling also struck down claims made by fellow claimants Baroness Doreen Lawrence and Sir Elton John.
In a joint statement on July 7, 2026, Prince Harry and Lady Lawrence condemned the decision as “a complete and obvious whitewash.” According to TalkTV host Kevin O’Sullivan, palace sources said King Charles was “furious” over the remarks, noting, “These are the King’s courts and the judge is His Majesty’s judge.”
“He cannot have his son going around insulting the courts of this land and the judges of this land,” he continued. Mr. O’Sullivan and royal author Angela Levin agreed that it was “completely ludicrous” of the Duke to react now, as the judge still has to decide on the payment of the case’s massive legal fees.
Per the Daily Express, Prince Harry and the other claimants could be handed a combined legal bill of up to £ 50 million once costs are confirmed later this month.
“It’s absolutely appalling. How can be make a judgement like that? Mr Justice Nicklin is a very well-known, careful lawyer. For Harry to come in and say that … he will have a very bad time. Harry will have to pay a lot of money because [he’s made it] all about him,” Levin added.
