Cameras caught President Donald Trump seemingly sleeping during a summit, even as Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth heaped praise on him. The moment happened at a roundtable inside the US Army War College in Pennsylvania, where business leaders and Republican officials had gathered.
Donald Trump seemingly fell asleep during summit
Hegseth gave a glowing tribute to the president. “Because of President Trump’s leadership, we have an entirely different department,” he said. As the compliments continued, Trump’s eyes appeared to shut.
For several seconds, Donald Trump appeared to be sleeping as he sat motionless. He then opened his eyes and shifted his body toward Hegseth, seemingly fighting to remain alert. But Trump appeared to slump again, his eyes closing for roughly 20 seconds while Hegseth credited him with having “rebuilt” the military twice, enabling actions like regime change in Venezuela to proceed. Only the word “president” seemed to jolt him back.
The Pennsylvania episode extends a pattern of public drowsiness. Last month, Trump seemed to close his eyes during Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. Days earlier, he drifted off at an agriculture roundtable.
A summer Oval Office incident went viral when video showed him slumping sideways, eyes shut. The White House social media team fired back at critics, writing, “His eyes are literally open in the clip you posted, you dumba– mouth-breathers.”
Meanwhile, the Iran war continues as Trump gave warnings, and Hegseth proposed testosterone level screenings for the US military. All in all, questions persist over Trump’s numerous episodes of drowsiness.
