King Charles Reacts to England’s World Cup Loss With Consolation Pint

England’s World Cup dream ended in heartbreaking fashion, but King Charles appeared determined to lift spirits with a little humor. Just one day after the Three Lions fell to Argentina in the semifinal, the monarch toasted the team with a pint during a royal visit to a historic brewery.

The lighthearted moment came as King Charles III and Queen Camilla visited a family-owned brewery in Dorset to celebrate its 250th anniversary. The outing quickly turned into a nod to England’s painful exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026, with the King making a joke that resonated with disappointed soccer fans across the country.

King Charles raises a pint after England’s heartbreaking loss to Argentina

King Charles and Queen Camilla visited the Hall and Woodhouse Badger Brewery on July 16, where the King tried pulling pints of the brewery’s Fursty Ferret amber ale and Tanglefoot golden ale. After taking a sip, he joked that it was “a good day to drown a few sorrows,” referencing England’s semifinal defeat.

The official royal family Instagram account echoed the sentiment by sharing the same phrase in its caption, accompanied by a soccer ball emoji.

England had looked poised to reach its first FIFA World Cup final since 1966 after Anthony Gordon scored shortly after halftime. However, Argentina mounted a dramatic comeback with two late goals, securing a place in the July 19 final against Spain.

Following the defeat, the royal family’s social media account praised the squad instead of dwelling on the loss. The post featured captain Harry Kane consoling Jude Bellingham alongside the message, “Commiserations to Harry and the team. While you Three Lions may be licking your wounds today, you remain the pride of a nation – and will rise again,” People reported.

Prince William also shared his disappointment over the result. The Prince of Wales wrote, “England, you gave it everything, and we are all so proud of you. Thank you to everyone on and off the pitch, for an incredible tournament. The fight and belief you have shown has inspired us all. The most complete England team in a tournament. Hold your heads high. W.”

William recently admitted on the New Heights podcast that his father never shared his passion for soccer. “Absolutely not. My father hates football,” he said, explaining that his love of the sport came from friends and school rather than family tradition.
