Meghan Markle’s Emmy Nomination Compared to Barack Obama’s Peace Prize

Meghan Markle‘s first Daytime Emmy nomination for her “With Love, Meghan” has sparked fresh debate. During an interview with Megyn Kelly, comedian and podcast host Adam Carolla compared the nomination to former President Barack Obama receiving the Nobel Peace Prize early in his presidency. Carolla argued that award shows have increasingly become popularity contests instead of recognizing merit.

Meghan Markle recently earned her first Emmy nomination after “With Love, Meghan” was selected for the Outstanding Lifestyle Program category at the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. The Netflix series focused on cooking, gardening, and lifestyle content while featuring celebrity guests. It will compete against “A Different Breed,” “George to the Rescue,” “The Motherhood,” and “The Wizard of Paws” when the winners are announced on October 30.

Following the announcement, Markle celebrated the achievement on Instagram by congratulating the people behind the project. “A huge congratulations to the amazing crew, producers, and team who worked on With Love, Meghan on @netflix,” she wrote.

Discussing the nomination on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Adam Carolla said he was not surprised that Markle’s show had earned recognition, using Barack Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize as a comparison. “Remember when Barack Obama got the [Nobel] Peace Prize before he even entered the office? This is kind of what the elites do,” Carolla said.

Carolla went on to criticize awards shows such as the Emmys and Oscars, claiming they no longer carry the prestige they once did. “This is why the Oscars are worthless, and nobody watches anymore. Emmys, all these sort of plaques, honors and prizes, they just kind of go one direction, and it does become a popularity contest or some sort of little kitschy club. All of a sudden, you’re back in high school again,” he said.

“With Love, Meghan” is still in the running for the Outstanding Lifestyle Program award. The nomination marks Markle’s first Emmy nomination since launching the Netflix series.
