The 37-year-old comedian confirmed her departure from the iconic sketch show on her Instagram on Thursday, July 16. She shared the news alongside a series of photos from her time on the show. She wrote: “After 7 wonderful seasons at SNL, I have decided it’s time for my next chapter.”
“It’s cliché to say this, but working at SNL has been the greatest privilege of my life. I still can’t really believe I got to be a part of it,” she continued. “I fell in love with the place the second I walked through the door.”
Fineman joined Saturday Night Live as a featured player in 2019 and got promoted to the repertory cast within two years. She became extensively known for her celebrity impressions of everyone—taking on stars like Timothée Chalamet, Jennifer Coolidge, Nicole Kidman, and Drew Barrymore, along with a memorable Queen Elizabeth II bit.
The former SNL star expressed deep gratitude towards the show’s creator and executive producer, Lorne Michaels, for the opportunity. She also thanked her castmates, the writers, and the crew for their support and friendship throughout her run. She wrote, “I’m going to miss it a lot. But the people who work there are my family, and that place is my home, and I know I’ll never be too far away.”
Recalling her glorious seven years at Saturday Night Live, the impressionist talked about the highs and lows of working at the sketch show and reflected on how much the experience shaped her.
The news prompted support from current and former cast members. Fans also poured out their love for her in the hours following her announcement in the comment section of the Instagram post.
