Joe Scarborough Rips Republicans Over Donald Trump’s Election Claims

Joe Scarborough is not holding back after Donald Trump’s latest turn in the spotlight. The “Morning Joe” host tore into fellow Republicans on the air. In a pointed Friday segment, he accused much of his own party of blindly echoing the president’s election fraud claims.

Scarborough’s response quickly emerged as one of the sharpest reactions to the president’s speech.

The criticism came a day after Trump delivered a primetime address on Thursday night, in which he argued that American voting systems have been compromised for years. During the speech, the president told viewers, “Our elections were left vulnerable to being rigged and stolen, and the trust of the American people was lost. This cannot be allowed to continue.”

Alongside the address, the administration released declassified documents meant to support the claims. Scarborough, however, pointed out the contradiction. He noted that one of the files indicated Russian actors had tried to sway the 2020 race in Trump’s favor, undercutting the president’s own argument that the election was stolen from him, according to The Wrap.

Reading from the document on air, the host could hardly believe it. “This document released by Donald Trump to prove that the U.S. election in 2020 was rigged says [Russia’s] aim [was] to defeat former Vice President Joe Biden and to ensure President Trump’s victory,” Scarborough said.

He described the situation as “staggering” and criticized what he viewed as the administration’s handling of the document release. The host saved his harshest words for Trump’s allies. He argued that nearly two-thirds of Republicans had fallen in line behind the president’s narrative, comparing it to the world imagined by “1984” author George Orwell.

“How sad that an entire party has gone lockstep,” he said. He added that the party had marched behind what he described as a series of falsehoods. He also claimed that some Republicans had privately dreaded the address, worried less about its content than its timing.

According to Scarborough, they feared the speech would be received exactly as it ultimately was. “Good luck with that,” he concluded.
