Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s widow, Tenisha Warner, filed a lawsuit against his mother, Pamela Warner. Court filings claim the late Cosby Show star owed his wife more than $1.2 million. The dispute reportedly centres on financial promises outlined in their 2022 prenuptial agreement.
Court filings say Tenisha Warner seeks payment owed under Malcolm’s premarital agreement
According to court files obtained by TMZ, Tenisha filed the lawsuit against Pamela, who serves as trustee. The case reportedly involves the Warner Family Trust and several financial obligations. Tenisha claims Malcolm agreed to provide those benefits before their marriage.
Malcolm and Tenisha reportedly signed their prenuptial agreement in May 2022. The couple married a few days after completing the agreement. Tenisha now claims Malcolm failed to fulfil several financial commitments before his death.
One major issue reportedly involved a $1 million life insurance policy. The agreement allegedly required Malcolm to maintain the policy with Tenisha as its sole beneficiary. However, Tenisha claims he never purchased or maintained the policy.
The lawsuit reportedly cites several other unpaid financial obligations from the agreement. Tenisha claims Malcolm failed to provide annual tax-free payments totalling $16,000. She also alleges that he did not fund a Roth IRA or pay her agreed salary.
According to the filing, Tenisha was Malcolm’s chief of staff and personal assistant during their marriage. She reportedly expected a monthly salary of $5,000 for these responsibilities. The lawsuit claims the unpaid salary eventually reached approximately $195,000.
Tenisha estimates that Malcolm’s outstanding obligations total at least $1,276,042.46. That figure allegedly includes the life insurance amount, anniversary payments, IRA contributions, and unpaid salary. She now wants the court to determine whether the trust can satisfy those obligations.
Tenisha filed the lawsuit one year after Malcolm’s death. The actor passed away at the age of 54 after drowning during a vacation in Costa Rica. He was popular for playing Theo Huxtable on the beloved sitcom The Cosby Show.
The lawsuit now brings renewed attention to Malcolm’s financial arrangements and family trust. However, the court has yet to determine whether Tenisha’s claims will succeed.
