Independent Autopsy Raises New Questions in Nolan Wells Death

Lawyer Ben Crump is expected to announce the results of an independent autopsy conducted on Nolan Wells.

Crump has earlier raised concerns about discrepancies in the drowning claim.

Nolan Wells’ independent autopsy findings are released as calls for transparency continue

According to TMZ, authorities had initially claimed that 18-year-old Wells died by drowning. However, Crump has questioned the initial theory surrounding Wells’ death. He cited alleged discrepancies in records involving those who were with Wells on the day of his disappearance.

Nolan Wells, a black youth’s body, was found at the shoreline of Horn Island, two days after he disappeared. A recent video shows Wells partying with a group of men on July 4 among several boats. The group later returned to the mainland without him.

Crump, along with others, suspects that the Mississippi investigators will try to sweep the real story under the rug. According to AP News, Wells’ family authorized the independent autopsy. Former NFL player Colin Kaepernick reportedly funded the examination. The autopsy aims to determine whether Wells “had any physical injuries to his body beyond drowning.”

Foul play is suspected by many. Meanwhile, Reverend Al Sharpton and Tyler Perry have each donated $50,000. The reward money is for information leading to an arrest or conviction in the case. Sharpton has questioned the “inconsistencies and unanswered questions” in the investigation.

He has raised doubts over several key points in the revelations, including why Wells’s friends left him behind. Why did they take his keys and phone, and why did they not report to the police?

Commenting on the investigation, Crump said, “We are trying to be respectful and collaborative as much as we can.” He added, “But it’s always troublesome to all of us when these investigations just take forever.”

The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release its autopsy results. Meanwhile, speculation surrounding Nolan’s death continues to grow.
