Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield dished to Page Six, “The biggest challenge won’t be academics or making friends. It’ll be balancing Prince George’s privacy with the reality that every classmate has TikTok. William and [his brother] Harry attended before social media transformed adolescence. George won’t have that luxury.”
Schofield explained that George has to handle himself in this digital age, where anything can go viral in a matter of seconds. She said, “It’s protecting his privacy in an age where something can go viral in seconds.” The royal commentator explained how the entire media landscape has “changed dramatically” since William was a student.
“The risks today aren’t just about someone physically approaching the future king,” Schofield said. “Digital exposure, drones, social media, and the speed at which information spreads all complicate the security picture. That means Prince George’s protection will almost certainly be more sophisticated.”
The royal expert also believes that the security for George will likely be “robust behind the scenes.” Schofield elucidated how she feels the royals will make every effort to ensure George’s peers aren’t constantly reminded they are standing next to a future king. The royal commentator cited the time when royal guards dressed in plain clothes and mixed in the background to keep an eye on William.
However, Schofield believes the Prince and Princess of Wales want to give their oldest son a “sense of normalcy” at school. The expert said, “If there’s one advantage George has that William didn’t, it’s that his father has already lived this exact experience. William knows where the pressure points are. He understands the social dynamics, the academic expectations and the emotional challenges.”
