Tony Romo was arrested in Milwaukee on Thursday night on a first-offense OWI. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback, now CBS’s lead NFL analyst, was pulled over on a highway and taken into custody after field sobriety tests. Deputies booked and released him the same night. Romo, 46, is due in court on Sept. 21.

The Toney Romo arrest happened around 6:18 pm., when deputies stopped him driving southbound on Interstate 43 near the high-rise bridge. According to the arrest detention report cited by local outlet Fox 6, he performed poorly on the field sobriety tests. He was booked into the Milwaukee County Jail before his release hours later.
The report does not say whether he took a breath test. Wisconsin treats a case like this differently from most states. A first-offense OWI is not a crime there, but a civil violation that usually brings a fine of $150 to $300 rather than jail.
The state also uses “OWI” where others say DUI, so any Tony Romo DUI coverage refers to the same charges, and his Sept.21 hearing lies ahead. Romo had been home in Wisconsin for golf. The Burlington native played in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship in West Bend that week and tied for 73rd.
Neither Romo nor CBS commented. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately answer some outlets’ follow-up questions about the stop.
Romo signed with Dallas undrafted in 2003 and became the starter in 2006. He retired after the 2016 season and moved straight into the CBS booth as the network’s top analyst, where he has called games ever since.
