Insiders claim Carson Daly remained upset after the exchange with Vicky Nguyen
The conversation unfolded during the July 17 episode of the Today show while the hosts discussed outdoor grills. Daly repeated a point about expensive barbecues not always being the best option.
Nguyen immediately jumped in with a smile and hugged her colleague. “Yeah. Thank you for mansplaining that again, Carson,” she joked, according to OK! Magazine.
Al Roker quickly reacted to the unexpected comment. “Whoa!” he said before adding, “You come for the grill advice, you stay for the ba-boom!”
Daly appeared to laugh off the remark on camera. “I just am passionate about the grill!” he replied.
However, Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice reported that the mood allegedly changed after the segment ended. One insider claimed, “Carson exploded off-air as soon as they went to commercial. He’s still livid, and Carson can hold a grudge.”

Despite the online chatter, Nguyen publicly brushed aside the controversy. She later shared an angry email from a viewer on Instagram criticizing her “mansplaining” remark.
The viewer wrote, “You owe Mr. Daly an apology for your ‘mansplaining’ comment.” Nguyen responded with humor instead of frustration. She captioned the post, “It’s hard out here for a consumer reporter.”
