Oliver Tree’s Mom Recalls Emotional Last FaceTime Before Fatal Helicopter Crash

Oliver Tree’s family shared an emotional new memory during a celebration of his life. His mother, Christine Begin Nickell, spoke about their final conversation one day before his death. She reported that her son was happy and was looking forward to the plans for the next day. Nickell told the story at the memorial service in his hometown of Santa Cruz, California.

Page Six reported that Nickell said she sent Oliver a text message the day before the crash asking him how he was doing with quitting smoking. She recalled, “I texted Oliver the day before he passed and asked how quitting smoking was going for him, as he promised he would give it up once he was on tour.” She said, “He Facetimed me immediately and let out a huge puff of cigarette smoke in my face.” Nickell added, “But he was so happy and excited about life that day.”

She also recalled what Oliver was going to do the following morning with his friends. “He told us he was taking a helicopter ride to a house on a mountain top the next day to make music and TikToks with his friends,” she said. Nickell then added, “He loved having epic days. Each one more memorable than the last.” Family, friends, and fans attended the Quarry Amphitheater in Santa Cruz Saturday to honor his life.

Three mannequins in bright windbreakers, sunglasses, cowboy hats, and bowl-cut wigs were part of the ceremony. Logan Paul and Diplo also spoke at the memorial. Last month, while visiting South America for “The World’s First World Tour,” Oliver passed away in a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. CNN reported that two helicopters collided in an electric vehicle yard and that the crash led to fires that damaged at least twenty cars.

The authorities have confirmed that Oliver was among six people who died in the crash. The other victims included Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim, also known as YouTuber Gaspi, Lucas Brito Chaves, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.
