Evan Rachel Wood Breaks Her Silence on the ‘Practical Magic 2’ Snub

Evan Rachel Wood revealed her disappointment over not returning for the upcoming Practical Magic sequel, hitting theatres on September 11. The 38-year-old actress called it “sad,” explaining that she and the cast had formed a special bond as children.

Evan Rachel Wood said she wasn’t invited back despite wanting to return

Wood shared her thoughts with Entertainment Tonight while attending the red carpet premiere of FX’s The Shards on July 27, reports Entertainment Weekly. Wood said she read the book and thought her character could have returned if the sequel followed the original story. However, she said the direction the film is taking did not leave room for her character’s return.

The actress said it was “sad” that she and Alexandra Artrip did not get the chance to reprise their roles. “We bonded with that cast so much as children. And so, to miss out on the opportunity to look at that cast and look at that house as an adult and see the history in our eyes is something that can’t be faked,” she expressed. She further added, “I’m sad that that doesn’t get to exist, especially for the fans.”

Wood appeared as Kylie Owens, the eldest daughter of Sandra Bullock’s Sally Owens, alongside Artrip as her younger sister, Antonia. According to Entertainment Weekly, the sequel features Joey King and Maisie Williams as the new faces of Kylie and Antonia.

According to TMZ, Wood is not the only original cast member missing from the sequel. Aidan Quinn, who played Bullock’s love interest Gary Hallett in the original film, will also not appear. The original Practical Magic film, based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 book, follows sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, played by Bullock and Nicole Kidman. The sequel brings back Bullock, Kidman, Stockard Channing, and Dianne Wiest, who returns as the sisters’ aunts Jet and Franny Owens.
