Fresh debate over Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged intelligence ties has erupted after comments from Vice President JD Vance sparked widespread attention. Now, Donald Trump biographer Michael Wolff has entered the conversation with his own account, rejecting claims that Epstein worked as an Israeli spy.
Wolff says the rumors oversimplify a much more complicated story. He believes Epstein traded influence, not intelligence.
Michael Wolff addressed Epstein rumors after JD Vance’s controversial remarks
Writing in a new post on Substack, Wolff challenged the theory that Epstein served as a Mossad operative.
“I can tell you, Epstein wasn’t an Israeli spy, certainly not in the deep state, cross-allegiance, John Le Carre sense,” the Fire and Fury author wrote.
Wolff’s comments came after JD Vance discussed Epstein during a recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. During the interview, Vance said, “He clearly had connections to the upper—the highest—levels of American intelligence. He clearly had connections to the highest of Israeli intelligence.”
Wolff argued that Vance echoed a broader conspiracy theory instead of presenting verified evidence. He wrote that the vice president was “nodding to a general MAGA conspiratorial view of Epstein” rather than confirming he worked for Israeli intelligence.
The journalist acknowledged that Epstein cultivated relationships with influential people around the world. However, he said those connections did not make him a spy.
Wolff recalled asking Epstein directly, “Are you a spy?” According to the author, Epstein smiled and answered, “Of course I’m a spy.”
When Wolff questioned why a real spy would admit it, Epstein allegedly replied, “Why not? Everybody’s a spy.”
The author suggested Epstein enjoyed creating mystery around himself. He added that Epstein “would not have particularly minded if you thought he was a spy,” and likely “would have been amused” by the speculation.
Wolff instead described the disgraced financier as “a post-modern sort of spy.” He argued that Epstein built his influence by collecting information and trading it among wealthy, powerful people.
According to Wolff, Epstein’s friendship with former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak represented his only significant connection to Israel.
He ultimately dismissed the Mossad theory with a final assessment. “Epstein was not a spy,” Wolff concluded. “He was a narrator, and while not always a reliable one, his was a story, widely told, about a man who wanted you to know he knew everything.”
