Rosie O’Donnell has explained how she approached the medication behind her major health transformation. The comedian also revealed why she resisted raising her dose too quickly, even when her doctor encouraged an increase.
Rosie O’Donnell explained why she increased her Mounjaro dose carefully over years
On the July 27 episode of “Bleep! With Ana Navarro,” O’Donnell identified Mounjaro as the drug she has used for the past three years. She said she remained on 2.5 milligrams for the first year, moved to 5 milligrams for the second and is now finishing a year at 7.5 milligrams.
O’Donnell said she expects to increase the Mounjaro dosage only once more before keeping it steady. She chose the gradual approach because rapid weight loss and the attention surrounding it had overwhelmed her in the past. “I like doing it at a slow pace,” she explained.
The latest Rosie O’Donnell weight loss update also addressed Mounjaro side effects. O’Donnell said she has not experienced gastrointestinal problems or other noticeable effects. When Ana Navarro asked whether the medication had ever forced her to rush to the bathroom, O’Donnell answered, “Never.”
However, her experience remains personal. FDA prescribing information lists nausea, diarrhea, decreased appetite, vomiting, constipation, indigestion, and abdominal pain among Mounjaro’s most common adverse reactions. Patients should discuss medication changes with their health care professionals rather than copying another person’s dose.
O’Donnell previously told PEOPLE that she started Mounjaro after receiving a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. She said the drug “saved my life,” helped quiet the “food noise” she had experienced for years and contributed to a loss of nearly 60 pounds over three years.
Her physical changes also influenced her decision to undergo a deep-plane facelift. O’Donnell later shared before-and-after images after losing weight and reconsidering her earlier opposition to cosmetic surgery.
The candid discussion adds another chapter to Rosie O’Donnell’s health journey and the wider conversation around GLP-1 weight loss. It also follows a run of personal disclosures about her life in her 60s, including her move to Ireland and her long-running conflict with Donald Trump.
