Late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham’s funeral service was held on July 28 at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. It was attended by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Eric Trump, Lara Trump, and more. However, First Lady Melania Trump was absent from the service.
The no-show has since sparked backlash among netizens, raising questions about why she wasn’t present. One social media user reportedly commented, “Why wasn’t Melania there? What a disgrace,” while another wrote, “Melania, you should be at the funeral. What’s wrong not at dinner and now” (via The Mirror US).
Graham, the former Republican representative for South Carolina, passed away on July 11 following a “brief and sudden illness.” According to preliminary findings, Graham died suddenly from a likely aortic tear at his Washington residence. An official statement from his office shortly after his death read, “Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”
Trump delivered an eulogy at Graham’s funeral service, honoring the late politician. The president called Graham a “true American original, who left us much too soon.” Trump added, “No matter how heated things got in Washington, virtually everyone — Republican or Democrat — liked Lindsey.”
Meanwhile, Melania had previously raised eyebrows for not attending the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on July 24. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also not present at the event. At the time, a White House spokesperson confirmed that they would not be attending due to prior commitments.
