Marcus Mumford, 39, appeared on the SmartLess podcast on July 27. The Mumford & Sons frontman said he can’t play music in his home because of a rule set by his wife Carey Mulligan.
He said, “We had this conversation the other day. We had a party at home. It was Carey’s birthday, and someone came, and they were like, ‘There’s no music.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, we don’t really play music.”
Mumford shared that he can’t let music play in the background; he ends up stopping everything to listen to the music. He said, “I can’t do background music because if music’s on, I want to lean in and listen to it. And I can’t switch that part of my brain off. So then Carey doesn’t like having music in the house because I just stop having a conversation.”
He also shared the type of music he prefers, saying, “I listen to probably mostly new music. And if I’m on my own, that’s when I listen to music.”
Earlier, in a conversation with The Guardian, the singer also shared, “We have a rule in our house where we don’t say hate,” and he wants to leave his children with “a spirit of generosity.”
According to People, the couple first met at a children’s camp when they were young. They got married in 2012 and have three kids: Evelyn Grace, Wilfred, and a younger daughter, whose name has not been disclosed publicly.
