Megyn Kelly shared details of a threat she received before stepping onto a college campus following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk. The journalist and her team received the threat via fax before the Virginia event.
Megyn says she received threats after Charlie Kirk’s assassination
The 55-year-old podcast host shared that she was preparing to join Kirk at the Virginia Tech stop of his Turning Point USA tour. The event was canceled after Kirk was fatally shot at the tour’s opening stop at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025, reports OK! Magazine.
Kelly said she was surprised but pleased that the tour would proceed as planned. The situation escalated after her team received the threat. Kelly’s longtime assistant Abby Emerson revealed in the clip, “[It] was really nasty and it was very specific, which is scary, especially 10 days after Charlie’s assassination.”
Emerson did not want Kelly to read the note at first, saying it was already being “handled.” Kelly said she pushed back, telling her assistant, “Don’t make me ask twice.” The threat included violent language targeting Kelly. Staff members said the note contained “descriptive” details about their planned trip. They added that the message raised concerns and reminded them of the circumstances surrounding Kirk’s death.
Talking about it, Kelly said, “You do have to worry. When we had the first indication that the killer was motivated by Charlie’s stance on the trans issue, the next day I opened my show by saying, ‘By the way, it’ll be many of us on the right who will not be silenced and who will make it our mission now to continue saying all the things that you thought you silenced with that bullet.'” Kelly chose to proceed, saying she believed the threat was only meant to pressure her into calling off the event.
Tyler Robinson has been accused of fatally shooting the right-wing activist, the Christian nationalist Kirk, who criticized the LGBTQ+ community, reports Le Monde. The 23-year-old, who reportedly said he “wishes he hadn’t done it,” faces several charges, including aggravated murder, in connection with Kirk’s death.
