Alex Cooper fired back at a troll who criticized her for “complaining about being pregnant.” The 31-year-old podcaster, who is expecting her first baby with film producer Matt Kaplan, responded after receiving a direct message (DM) following her announcement about her gestational diabetes diagnosis.

The mom-to-be discussed the update in an Instagram video she shared on July 30. She narrated, “I’m not gonna cry on the internet because I’ve never cried on the internet, but when I tell you, I almost did.”
“I was told anyone can get this no matter what your prior weight, diet, fitness level — literally anyone is susceptible to getting it,” she explained, as stated by People. She revealed that she struggled emotionally in the days after receiving the diagnosis, describing the experience as isolating despite the support of her loved ones. She added that the diagnosis felt especially difficult because pregnancy already involves significant emotional changes.
Cooper added that she felt “blessed” to have enjoyed many memorable moments during pregnancy. She explained that her immediate concern was her baby’s well-being and that she was willing to do whatever was needed.
However, one user sent Cooper a DM saying, “Don’t complain about being pregnant. Your choice. Pregnancy can be hard.” Cooper responded to the message by sharing a screenshot of the DM on Instagram. She sarcastically wrote, “Pregnancy can be hard? Oh Chris, tell me about your pregnancy. I would love to hear, babe!” She also noted that many similar messages she receives are from men.
Cooper announced her pregnancy on May 17 and said she had planned to keep the pregnancy private until August or September, but noted that things did not “work as expected,” according to People. Cooper and Kaplan met on a Zoom business call and ended up going on a dinner date soon after. The couple later got engaged in April 2023 before tying the knot in April 2024.
