Newly surfaced diary pages from Dr. Anthony Fauci show Barack Obama privately tearing into Donald Trump and his eldest son. Obama reportedly called the president a “hopeless idiot” and labeled Donald Trump Jr. a “f***ing moron” during a phone call in late 2021.
Dr. Anthony Fauci’s diary reveals Barack Obama’s words for Donald Trump
The exchange surfaced in one of over 1,000 pages of Fauci’s handwritten and typed entries, released this past weekend by Senator Rand Paul. On page 914, Fauci recounts phoning Obama for support while under fire from what he called “far-right Republicans.”
Central to those attacks was a fundraising stunt: Trump Jr. had put sweatshirts and T-shirts up for sale bearing the phrase “Fauci kills puppies,” a jab tied to claims that Fauci’s agency had bankrolled inhumane animal testing.
Barack Obama’s reaction, as Fauci documented it, was blunt. “Obama said That Donald Trump junior is “A f***ing moron”.” He apologized for using crude language but then went on to say that “Donald Trump was a hopeless idiot who was a pathological liar.”
The puppy allegations traced back to a paper in PLOS Neglected Tropical Diseases describing experiments where puppies’ heads were held in mesh enclosures while exposed to sand flies. research funded through Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which he led from 1984 until 2022. The journal walked back parts of that study with a correction in October 2021.
Anthony Fauci’s diary entry goes further, noting Barack Obama’s irritation that Republican moderates weren’t defending him. “He was very upset that none of the moderate Republicans were actually speaking out on my behalf and were distancing themselves from all of this terrible slanderous behavior against me,” Fauci wrote. He closed the entry calling the 25-minute exchange “a great conversation” and “an incredibly memorable phone call.”
The diary itself has a notable backstory: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. discovered it on government servers before it was turned over to Senate Republicans. Its release has renewed questions about Fauci’s pandemic leadership.
