Tate McRae is no stranger to making a statement with her fashion choices, and her latest Variety shoot may be one of her boldest yet. The 23-year-old pop star embraced minimal styling by posing pantless in nothing but a luxury knit cardigan and a cheeky thong. She proved that less can certainly be more when it comes to high-fashion editorials.
Tate McRae poses pantless in Miu Miu cardigan and cheeky Araks thong for Variety
Photographed by David Roemer for Variety, Tate McRae struck a series of striking poses against a clean studio backdrop while balancing a pair of oversized black boxing gloves above her head. The sporty prop added an unexpected contrast to the otherwise soft and feminine color palette, giving the editorial an athletic touch.
The “Greedy” hitmaker wore the Miu Miu Fall/Winter 2026 V-Neck Wool Cardigan in Cream. A luxurious knit retailing for $1,550. The cropped sweater featured a subtle notched V-neckline, long fitted sleeves, and a close silhouette. This hugged her figure and stopped just above her waist. Its pale buttery-yellow hue complemented her golden blonde hair and glowing complexion.
Rather than pairing the cardigan with pants or a skirt, McRae opted for the Araks Stella Thong. The piece came in Pomelo Yellow, priced at $70. The silky underwear matched the warm yellow tones of the cardigan. Thus creating a coordinated monochromatic look that felt editorial yet playful. The daring styling highlighted her toned abs and long legs, while keeping the focus on the luxurious textures of both garments.
McRae completed the look with softly bronzed makeup, glossy nude lips, and voluminous, side-swept waves that framed her face. The understated beauty styling allowed the fashion to remain the centerpiece of the shoot.
The eye-catching portrait accompanies McRae’s new Variety cover story. Here she reflects on the realities of navigating global fame and protecting her private relationships. She also discusses how she maintains a sense of fantasy in her career despite the pressures that come with being one of pop music’s fastest-rising stars.
